History Of Ball Arena

Ball Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in downtown Denver, Colorado. Formerly known as the Pepsi Center, the arena is home of the Denver Nuggets of the NBA (National Basketball Association) and the Colorado Avalanche of the NHL (National Hockey League). Other major sports venues in the local area include the Denver Coliseum, Coors Field (home of the Colorado Rockies of the MLB,) and Empower Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos of the NFL.

Both the Avalanche and the Nuggets played at McNichols Sports Arena until Ball Arena was completed in 1999. Naming rights were held by PepsiCo until October 2020, when a multi-year agreement was signed with Broomfield-based Ball Corporation.

As well as hosting NHL and NBA games, Ball Arena is the home venue for the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). It also has a separate basketball practice court used by the Nuggets. Many other events have also been hosted at the arena, including the 2008 Democratic National Convention, the Stanley Cup Final in 2001 and 2022, and the 2001 NHL All-Star Game.

The first event held at Ball Arena was a sold-out concert by Celine Dion on October 1, 1999. Since then, the arena has hosted many live music concerts by major artists, including Taylor Swift, Andrea Bocelli, Elton John, and Kylie Minogue.

The arena’s maximum seating capacity is 19,520 for basketball games and 17,809 for hockey and lacrosse games. Concerts can seat 20,000+ spectators depending on the stage configuration used.

Standard Seating at Ball Arena

The Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche seating charts show standard seating on the Loge/Lower Level and the Balcony/Upper Level.

Seat prices listed below are an indication of ticket prices available on Ticketmaster. You may find cheaper tickets available on secondary market websites, including StubHub

Loge Level

The 100 Level at Ball Arena is also known as the Loge Level. Sections in this area generally have 22 rows of seats, and the highest seat number will be on your left as you face the court or ice.

For hockey games, premium Club Lexus Glass seating takes up the front row of every Loge Level section. Rows 2-7 of sections 102 and 148 are taken up by premium Club Lexus Bench seating, and standard seating starts on row 8.

Loge Level Side (Denver Nuggets)

View of the basketball court from section 102 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: Lisahuang, A View from my Seat.

You’ll find some of the best tickets for the Denver Nuggets in Loge Level Side sections. These seats have unobstructed views and a location that makes it easy to follow the action across the whole of the court.

The front rows in these sections are Premium Loge seats and sitting in the standard seats behind them will get you close to your favorite players. However, you’ll get the best overall view from seats nearer the top of the sections at center court.

The Nuggets’ home bench is in front of section 148, or choose section 102 to sit behind the visiting team bench.

Prices start at $300-400 for the first rows of standard seats or $175-200 for the better view from seats at the back of the section.

Loge Level Corner (Denver Nuggets)

View of the basketball court from section 142 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: Ngarner2, A View from my Seat.

Lower Level Corner sections at Ball Arena are large sections with up to 22 rows and up to 26 seats in a row. Getting to seats at the ends will be easier than seats in the middle of these long rows.

If being close to the court or great views are your top priority, avoid picking seats in Loge Level Corner sections. The front rows don’t have great sightlines, and the rows further back will seat you a long way from the court.

On the other hand, the Lower Level Corner sections offer some of the cheapest Denver Nuggets tickets, and you might feel that outweighs the downsides.

Nuggets ticket prices in these sections start at around $80-100.

Loge Level End (Denver Nuggets)

View of the basketball court from section 140 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: Anonymous User, A View from my Seat.

Although Loge Level End sections will get you close to the court at a Nuggets game, you won’t necessarily have the best view of the action.

You might find that your view is obstructed by the basket. This is more of a problem in the front rows, so choose rows further back for a better view.

Seats in the front rows are just behind the premium Courtside seats, and you can expect to pay prices starting at $200 here. Move further back in the section, and you’ll have a better view at a cheaper price. Tickets in these rows could cost as little as $65.

Loge Level Side (Colorado Avalanche)

View of the ice from section 102 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: Anonymous User, A View from my Seat.

Seats along the side of the Loge Level are some of the best Avalanche seats. You’ll have excellent views across the whole rink, but sitting further back in the section will prevent your view from being affected by the glass.

Choose section 102 to sit behind the Avalanche bench or section 148 to sit behind the visiting team’s bench. Standard seating only begins on row 8 of those sections, as the first 7 rows are taken up by premium seats. The penalty box is in front of sections 124-126.

Seats behind the team benches could cost from $750, or you could pay prices starting at $200-300 for seats further back in the side sections.

Loge Level Corner (Colorado Avalanche)

View of the ice from section 142 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: Lydianelson44, A View from my Seat.

The front 2 rows of these sections are premium Club Lexus seats, but standard Lower Level Corner sections offer a cheaper alternative to seats at center ice. This position gives you a good view of the game developing along and across the rink.

The lower rows let you watch the players battling for the puck right in front of you, but bear in mind that the glass might disrupt your view. Choose sections 130-132 or 140-142 to get a close view of the Avalanche shooting twice in front of your seat.

If you choose seats towards the back of the sections, you’ll have a better view, but the rows are longer with 20+ seats. Getting to and from seats in the middle of the row will be more difficult.

Standard seats in Loge Level Corner sections start at around $175-200, depending on your selected row.

Loge Level End (Colorado Avalanche)

View of the ice from section 110 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: NZScout27, A View from my Seat.

End sections on the Loge Level give you a great view of an Avalanche game. If you sit in the lower rows, the glass will disrupt your view, but you might feel being closer to the ice is worth it.

The Avalanche shoots twice towards sections 130-144, so these seats are popular with Avs fans. If you support the visiting team, they will shoot twice towards sections 134-140.

The front 1 or 2 rows of these sections are premium Club Lexus seats, depending on which end of the ice you choose. The standard seats behind start at $150-200, making them a good value option if you want to sit in the lower bowl of Ball Arena.

Balcony Level

View of the ice from section 342 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.
Image Credit: Lydianelson44, A View from my Seat.

The Upper Level at Ball Arena is divided into the Upper Balcony Level and Lower Balcony Level.

The best Upper Level views can be found in the Lower Balcony Level sections, which have odd section numbers. There are just three rows of seating in these small sections, so accessing the concourse from your seat will be easy.

Accessing seats in the even-numbered Upper Balcony Level sections involves a longer walk up one or two sets of steps. The second set of steps to seats at the back of the section is very steep, so avoid seats in the back rows if you are nervous about walking up and down steps.

View of the ice from section 362 at Ball Arena, Denver, Colorado.

If you’re buying Denver Nuggets Balcony Tickets, side section seats in center court will give you the best view of the action.

Side sections near center ice are also the best upper level seats for an Avalanche game, giving you a good view across the whole rink.

If you’re looking for affordable upper level tickets, you could consider some rows in corner sections. However, avoid sections angled away from center court, as you’ll have a poor view of the action at the opposite end of the court. Go for Lower Level Balcony seats if you prefer a better view.

End section seats may have views obstructed by the basket, so only choose this area if you have no other option.

Sections 360-364 are popular with Avs fans as the Avalanche shoot twice in this direction.

Nuggets seats on the Balcony Level start at around $40, and seats at center court in the Lower Balcony start at around $80, making them a great value alternative to Lower Level seating.

Balcony Level seats for an Avalanche game start at around $75 for Upper Balcony Level End section seats. Seats at center ice on the Lower Balcony start at around $170.

Accessible Seating

All levels of Ball Arena have ADA-accessible seats that are available to guests with disabilities and their companions.

All restrooms on every level of Ball Arena are wheelchair accessible. Elevators connecting the arena’s levels can be found in the following locations:

  • 2 at the East Atrium entrance
  • 2 at the Grand Atrium entrance
  • 2 connecting Sections 122/226/335

Restricted View Seating

Avalanche seats close to the ice will have their view distorted slightly by the safety glass. However, you may feel sitting so close to the action makes the view worth it.

Which Are The Best Value Seats At Ball Arena?

Standard seating at Ball Arena offers a range of affordable options for watching your favorite team.

Here’s our pick of the best value seats for a Colorado Avalanche or Denver Nuggets game.

Best Value for Cheapest Price

The Balcony Level at Ball Arena offers the cheapest tickets for an Avalanche or Nuggets game. You’ll get the best view of the action from Lower Balcony Seats at center court or ice, where tickets start at $80 for Nuggets games and $170 to watch the Avalanche.

If you sit in End Sections, the seats will cost around half those prices, but your view won’t be as good.

Best Value to Get Close to the Action

Front row seats in Loge Level End sections for a Nuggets game are directly behind 3 rows of courtside seats. You’ll be very close to the action, but the basket will partially obstruct your view.

The obstruction is less of a problem if you sit a few rows further back, and the seats are also cheaper. Expect to pay prices from $200 for the front row of standard seats in Lower Level End sections or around $100 for seats further back.

If you’re watching the Avalanche play, seats near the front of Loge Level Corner sections will place you close to the action at your end of the ice. They’re more affordable than seats at center ice.

Choose sections angled towards center ice for a more comfortable view of the entire rink, such as sections 132 and 142 at the Avs attack-twice end. If you’re a visiting fan, go for section 108 and low-numbered seats in the lower rows of section 120. Seats in these areas will start at around $200.

Best Value for a Great View

Lower Balcony seats at center court or ice have an excellent elevated view of the action. With only three rows of seating in each section, visits to the concourse will be easy, too. Tickets in this location for a Nuggets game start at around $80, and Avalanche tickets will start at around $170.

Best Value for Visiting Fans

The visiting team bench is in front of section 104 for Nuggets games and section 148 for Avalanche games.

The seats directly behind the benches are premium Club Lexus seats, but a more affordable option can be found in Lower Balcony section 301 for Avalanche games and 305 for Nuggets games. These will give you a great elevated view of the game and your favorite players, with ticket prices starting at around $80 for the Nuggets and $170 for the Avalanche.

Another good option for visiting fans at an Avalanche game can be found in Lower Balcony section 317. This corner section is at the visiting team’s shoot-twice end and is angled towards center ice for a great view of the game as it develops along and across the rink. Tickets here start at around $135.
