History Of Empower Field at Mile High
Empower Field at Mile High is an American football stadium and home to the Denver Broncos of the NFL (National Football League). Work started on the new stadium in 1999, and it opened in 2001, replacing the Broncos’ former home, the Mile High Stadium. The stadium has a distinctive horseshoe shape with an open south end on the 300, 400, and 500 Levels.
The stadium was previously known under various names, including Broncos Stadium at Mile High, Invesco Field at Mile High, and Sports Authority Field at Mile High. Football fans might know it better as Mile High or New Mile High, while some Broncos fans still call it the Mile High Stadium.
The stadium’s nickname comes from its altitude of 1 mile (5,280 feet or 1,610 meters) above sea level. The difficulty of playing at this higher elevation gives the Denver Broncos an extra advantage over visiting teams, which is compounded by the notoriously raucous fans, especially those in the South Stands. Broncos fans create an intimidating noise known as the “Rocky Mountain Thunder” by stamping on the stadium’s steel tread risers.
The Broncos played their first regular season game in their new home on September 10, 2001, with a 31–20 win over the New York Giants.
As well as Denver Broncos home games, Empower Field has also hosted soccer matches, other sporting events, and concerts by artists including Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, U2, and Kenny Chesney.
More than $100 million of upgrades were announced in 2022 including a new video scoreboard which is the 5th largest video board in the NFL. Despite these and other upgrades, including seating updates, Empower Field at Mile High was not selected as a venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Standard Seating at Empower Field at Mile High
Empower Field at Mile High has standard seating sections throughout the 100 and 500 Levels as well as additional end zone sections on the Plaza Level and 300 Level.
Official Denver Broncos tickets and verified resale tickets are available through TicketMaster. You can also buy resale tickets on secondary market websites like StubHub.
2000 half-price tickets are made available for every Denver Broncos home game with a limit of 4 tickets per household. These discounted NFL tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
100 Level
100 Level sections are closest to the field and may also be known as field level seats or lower level seats. Most of these lower sections have 40 rows of seats arranged in two tiers with a section tunnel near row 21.
Lower Level Sideline
Lower Level sideline sections have 40 rows of seats. Rows 1-20 in the lower tier are as close to the field as you can get, while the upper seating tier has some of the best views in the stadium.
Lower Level sideline seats at midfield will offer the best view of the action, however sitting too close to the field can mean your view is obstructed by players on the sideline. On the other hand, if you sit just above the entrance tunnel, you might be distracted by spectators heading to and from the concourse.
Sitting in the last 10 rows of the second tier avoids both these problems, while the 5 rows at the back of the section also have the advantage of cover from the level above. This is why they’re regarded as some of the best Empower Field at Mile High tickets.
On the secondary market, you can expect to pay prices starting around $900-1000 for front row seats at midfield and $400-600 further back in the section.
Lower Level Corner
Corner seating on the 100 Level at Empower Field at Mile High will give you a pretty good view of the game, especially if you sit in the upper seating tier.
Corner sections 110-111 and 117-118 on the north side of the stadium will have the most comfortable views of the large video board. As with lower level sideline seating, choosing seats in the last 5 rows will give you cover from the tier above.
Tickets in these areas are available at prices around $400-500 for the first few rows and $200-300 at the back of the section.
Lower Level End Zone
Field level seating is available at both end zones, with 40 rows of seating in two tiers. The last few rows of sections 111-117 at the north end zone are partially covered, but this isn’t the case in the south end zone.
Sitting in rows 1-5 will bring you within a few feet of scoring plays, but it’s hard to see the action when it reaches the opposite end of the field. However, sitting at the north end will give you a good view of the video board.
The Broncos side enters the field through the tunnel between sections 134 and 135, while sections 115 and 116 are on either side of the visiting team tunnel. These sections are very popular and get crowded at the start and end of the game.
Ticket prices for the front row of lower level end zone sections can range from $500 to $1000 on the secondary market. You’ll find seats further back available at prices around $200-300, making them a great value option for a Broncos game.
Plaza Level End Zone
The Plaza Level at Empower Field covers sections 228-236 above the south end zone. These sections have up to 33 rows of seating with the entrance at the bottom of the section.
These sections don’t have great access to amenities or fantastic views. There’s also no cover, making them some of the coldest seats in the stadium.
Prices here start around $150, so they’re some of the cheapest seats at Mile High Stadium. However, for that price you can get a better view of the whole field and a more enjoyable game day experience from the upper deck sideline or lower level corner sections.
300 Level End Zone
300 Level Endzone seating covers sections 316-330 behind the north end zone. Each section has 19 rows of seating with the entrance at row 5.
These seats give you a great view of the field, and you’ll be able to see the large video board at the south end of the field. Choose rows 10 and above to enjoy the shelter of the overhang.
You can find tickets in this elevated position starting at around $150-200 at the back of the section, rising to $350-400 in the front rows.
500 Level
The upper deck at Empower Field at Mile High offers the cheapest tickets for a Broncos game. There’s a big variation in views between the front and back of the section, which is reflected in the ticket pricing.
These sections have up to 35 rows, and choosing tickets in rows 20 and higher will save you money. On the other hand, you’ll have a longer walk to your seat, and the view won’t be as good as from the lower rows.
Sitting on the top deck of the stadium will also expose you to the elements. Pick the west side of the stadium if you want to see shade sooner.
Upper Level Sideline
The Level 500 sideline has massive sections that have up to 36 rows of seating, with the entrance located near rows 4 or 7. The sections slope steeply so you’ll face a walk up steep steps to the high rows. If you’re not keen on heights or have difficulty with stairs, it’s better to pick seats in the lower half of the section.
Choosing seats in the lower rows will give you an excellent view of the game that’s similar to the premium seats on the club level below you. Sections 507-509 and 533-535 in midfield make an affordable alternative to the more expensive 100 Level sideline sections.
Tickets on the Upper Level sideline start at around $300 for front row tickets. If you’re happy to climb up to the higher rows, you’ll find tickets starting at around $150.
Upper Level Corner
Although the upper tier of Empower Field isn’t a full bowl, there are seating sections at all four corners. Picking the right corner will make a big difference to your Broncos experience.
Choosing corner seating at the south end of the stadium (sections 500-503 and 539-542) will leave you exposed to wind, rain, and snow.
If you pick corner sections at the north end of the stadium (sections 524-528 and 526-529), you won’t face such cold conditions, and you’ll be able to follow the game on the stadium’s large video board. You’ll also enjoy a stunning view of the Rocky Mountains through the open end of the stadium.
These sections have up to 30 rows of seating with accessible seating and the section entrance located at the bottom.
Seats in the lower rows start from $125-200, while you can pay as little as $80-100 if you’re happy to sit at the top of the section.
Upper Level End Zone
The horseshoe design of the Broncos stadium configuration means Upper Level End Zone seating is only available at the north end of the stadium in sections 516-525. These sections have 23-25 rows of seating with ADA accessible seating at the front and the entrance near row 4.
Seats up here give you a bird’s eye view of the game, but you might struggle to follow the action when it moves to the opposite end of the field. Luckily, you’ll be sitting opposite the stadium’s video board, which will keep you updated with scores and replays.
Expect to pay prices starting around $100 at the front of 500 Level End Zone sections and $80 if you sit further back.
Accessible Seating
Empower Field at Mile High has ADA seating available on all levels of the stadium, including the United Club seating, Suites, and reserved seating.
On the 100 Level, the ADA seating is located just above the entrance tunnel at row 21.
Accessible seating on the 500 Level is in the first row and accessed through a dedicated stair-free tunnel.
The stadium tiers and seating areas are linked by 12 elevators and 15 escalators.
Restricted View Seating
Empower Field at Mile High has unobstructed seat views all around the stadium and from all five levels.
