History Of Bank of America Stadium

Bank of America Stadium is home of the Carolina Panthers of the NFL and the Major League Soccer team, Charlotte FC. 

This multi-purpose stadium is located on a 33-acre site in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. It has a maximum seating capacity of 74,867, capped at 38,000 for most Charlotte FC games, which only use the lower bowl and club level. 

The stadium’s classic bowl design has been compared to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Chicago’s Soldier Field. Unusual design features include two larger-than-life bronze panthers at each gate, the largest bronze statues ever commissioned in the United States. 

BOA Stadium is one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL. Plans for over $800 million dollars of improvements were unveiled in June 2024, including new seating, lighting, and concourses. The work is due to start in 2026, with completion expected by 2029.

Bank of America Stadium was originally known as Carolinas Stadium and still uses this name for certain events, such as FIFA soccer games. It opened for the first time in 1996 as Ericsson Stadium and changed name in 2004 when Charlotte-based Bank of America acquired the naming rights. However, fans also know the venue as BOA Stadium, PoundTown, or The Bank.  

After playing their first season at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, the Carolina Panthers played their first game in their new stadium on August 3, 1996. The result was a 30–12 preseason victory over the Chicago Bears.

Charlotte FC became Major League Soccer’s 28th franchise in the 2022 season. Their first home game at BOA Stadium was a 1-0 loss against the LA Galaxy on March 5, 2022.

Standard Seating at Bank of America Stadium

Standard seating is available on the 100, 200, and 500 Levels at the Bank of America Stadium for Carolina Panthers games. 

Charlotte FC games generally only use 100 and 200 sections for standard seating. However, 500 Level seats may be available for some games.

100 Level

The 100 Level is the best place to sit at Bank of America Stadium if you like getting close to the action. Sections 101-140 have 20 rows of seating, and the front rows are just a few feet from the field. Even if you’re at the back of the section, you’ll still be in pretty close proximity to the field. 

Lower Level Sideline 

Lower Level Sideline seats are the most popular standard seats at BOA stadium, thanks to their excellent field-side position. These sections have 20 rows of seating, with the concourse tunnels near row 20 at the top. Sitting further back will also give you the benefit of a clearer view over the players on the sideline. 

Sideline sections 130-133 are behind the Panthers’ sideline, and front-row seats will be just a few feet away from the players. Charlotte FC fans will love to sit in sections 128-130, just behind the home team bench. 

Visiting fans at Panthers games might prefer to sit in sections 110-113, which are behind the visitor sideline on the north side of the field. However, this side gets very little shade.

Ticket prices on the sideline vary depending on the row and section. 

For a Panthers home game, front row seats in midfield sections could cost you $1000-2000 or higher on the secondary market while tickets further back may cost around $800-1200. 

Move along the sideline, and you’ll pay prices from $800-1200 for seats in the lower rows and $700-900 further back. 

Charlotte FC tickets in midfield could cost around $120-150 at the front of the section and around $80-100 towards the back. Closer to the end of the sideline, you’ll pay around $80-100 for the front rows and just $65-75 for seats further back. 

Lower Level Corner 

Lower Level Corner seating is available in all four corners of BOA Stadium’s lower deck. These sections have just 20 rows, so it’s not a long walk to seats at the back of the section.

If you choose seats towards the front of a corner section, you’ll sit very close to the field and have a great view of scoring plays at your end of the field. However, your low position will make seeing the opposite end of the field difficult, so you’ll need to rely on the video board.

The home team tunnel is between sections 106 and 107, while sections 136 and 137 are on either side of the visiting team tunnel. These sections will give you a good view of the players joining the field. However, sections 104-107 are in full sun, which can cause poor visibility in the late afternoon.

Seats in Lower Level Corner sections cost around $70-90 for Charlotte FC games and $500-1000 for Panthers tickets. Expect higher prices for seats nearer the front, and sections 106-107 and 136-137 will often be more expensive than the other corners.

Lower Level End Zone 

Lower Level End Zone seating is available at both ends of the field at Bank of America Stadium. There are 20 rows in each section, and the entrance is at the back of the section. 

These seats will give you a thrilling view of the action when the ball moves to your end of the field, but it’s hard to see detail at the other end. Your view might also be partially obstructed by the goalposts. 

Panthers tickets in the Lower Level End Zone cost around $600-800 for seats in the front rows or $500-700 for seats further back. Charlotte FC tickets in this area start at $85 at the front of the section and $65 nearer the back.

For Charlotte FC games, sections 119-124 in the east end zone are taken up by the General Admission Supporters Section.

200 Level End Zone 

The 200 Level End Zone seating is directly behind the 100 Level sections, separated only by a walkway. 

This seating area includes sections 201-206, 224-234, and 252-256 for Panthers games or sections 201-206, 224-226, 232-234, and 252-256 for Charlotte FC games. Sections 227-231 are included in the Supporters Section at Charlotte FC games.

200 Level seats are on the same tier as the 300 Level Club sections but don’t have the same access to club amenities. 

You’ll have a slightly better view from 200 Level End Zone seats compared to the 100 Level End Zone sections. Choose a lower row if you want easy access to the entrance tunnel. 

Football fans can expect to pay $400-600 for seats in these 21-row sections at Panthers games. 

Tickets for Charlotte FC games in this area will cost around $45-55.

500 Level

Seating in the Bank of America Stadium’s highest tier runs around the entire 500 Level in a similar design to Arrowhead Stadium. 

Sections 501-55 have up to 35 numbered rows. The entry tunnels are at the bottom of each section, so higher-numbered rows will require a long hike up the stairs. 

Upper Level Sideline 

Upper Level Sideline sections have 35 rows of seating, making them the largest in the stadium. Choosing lower rows will give you a great view of the field, especially if you’re in midfield sections like 514-515 and 541-542. You’ll also benefit from being close to the section entry tunnel for easy access to the upper concourse.

Choosing seats further back in the section will be cheaper, but your view won’t be as good. You could also have to climb up many steps to reach your seat. 

Seats on the stadium’s west side tend to be more popular as you’ll have the setting sun behind you. 

Tickets in these sections cost around $500-800 for row 1A. You could get tickets starting from just $250-350 at the back of the sideline sections.

Upper Level tickets are not generally sold for Charlotte FC games but expect to pay around $15-30 when they are available.

Upper Level Corner 

Upper Level Corner seating is available in all four corners of BOA Stadium’s upper deck. These sections have 30-34 numbered rows and are usually some of the cheapest tickets for a Panthers game.

The front rows of these sections will give you a reasonable view of the game, especially when the ball moves to the near end of the field. Further back, you won’t have such a good view, but you’ll be able to catch up on the video boards positioned at each end of the field. 

Expect to pay prices starting from $200-400 for Panthers tickets in this area, with the lower prices available for seats towards the back of the section.

Upper Level Endzone 

If you’re going to sit in the stadium’s highest tier, the most important thing is to pick the right row. 

At the front of the sections, you’ll have an excellent elevated sightline similar to the luxury suites below. Choose the right sections, and you’ll also enjoy amazing skyline views of the city of Charlotte. There’s also easy access to the concourse tunnel without a long walk to and from your seat. 

Further back in the Upper Level End Zone sections, you might pay less for your ticket, but you’ll have to walk up several steps to reach your seat. Your view of the field won’t be so good, but you’ll have a great view of the video board at the opposite end of the field. 

Upper Level End Zone seats are some of the most affordable options for tickets at Bank of America Stadium. Panthers tickets in the Upper Level End Zone will start at around $200-500, and the higher seats generally have lower ticket prices. 

Accessible Seating

Accessible seats are available in the following areas:

• 100 Level: Sections 105, 118, 125, and 138 
• 500 Level: Sections 522, 525, 531, and 534

Most seats at Bank of America Stadium have unobstructed views.

The view from Lower Level End Zone sections could be obstructed by the goalposts, making it hard to follow the action at the other end of the field.

General Admission tickets are available for Charlotte FC games in sections 119-124 and 227-231 behind the east goal, known as the Supporters Section.

Best Value for Cheapest Price

If you want to balance price with great seat views, sections 513-516 or 540-543 offer the best sightlines from midfield. Choosing a low row will make a big difference to your game day experience. 

Best Value to Get Close to the Action

Row 1A in 100 Level sections will seat you just a few feet from the field. Midfield sections such as 111-112 will give you the best view, but they’re also the most expensive lower level seats. 

Choosing front row seats in corner sections like 125-126 will be cheaper, and the front rows are still pretty close to the action.  

Best Value for a Great View

BOA Stadium has a symmetrical design with seating all round, and it’s difficult to pick a bad seat.

Seats close to midfield will have a very good view. Seats on the 50-yard line are the most expensive, so choose sections further down the sideline, such as sections 128-129.

Lower Level Sideline sections only have 20 rows, so choose seats around row 10 for a slightly elevated position that gives you a better view. 

If you’re working with a smaller budget, the front row of end zone sections on the 500 Level makes a good choice. 

Sections 526-530 give you a great head-on view of the developing game, and you can easily see the video boards for replays at the other end of the field. 

Best Value for a Fun Atmosphere

If you’re a devoted Charlotte FC fan, the general admission Supporters Section is a great spot for a fun atmosphere without a high price tag.

Seats are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, so you could lose your spot if you head to the concessions or restrooms. You’ll also need to be ready to stand for the whole game.

Best Value for Visiting Fans

While 100 Level sections will place you right behind the teams on the sideline, they also come at a high cost. 

Choosing sections 514-516 for Panthers games will still give you a good view of the teams, but you’ll pay much less. If they’re available, sections 554-544 are a good choice for Charlotte FC games.

If only field-level seats will do, opt for corner sections 136-137 on either side of the visitor tunnel instead of sideline tickets.

There is minimal shaded cover at Bank of America Stadium. The stadium’s west side has the most shade, while the east side of the field sees more sun.

Almost all seats on the upper deck are in the sun for most of the day, but you’ll see more sun in sections 507-530.

Transportation And Parking At A Carolina Panthers Or Charlotte FC Home Game

Bank of America Stadium is located at 800 South Mint Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

If you’re driving to the stadium from the north and south, use I-77 or I-85. You can also take US 74 from the east or west or I-277 from the west. 

Parking at Bank of America Stadium

Parking at Bank of America Stadium is easy, with more than 30,000 spaces within a 15-minute walk of the stadium. Parking spaces are available on a season-long or game-by-game basis.

If you have assigned parking, you will receive a parking pass via email before the start of the season. 

There is no reserved accessible parking at Bank of America Stadium. Visitors with an accessible parking placard can use a game day shuttle provided by Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. If you wish to use this service, park at 720 E. Morehead St in Uptown. 

There is also an ADA drop-off location on the corner of Mint Street and Morehead Street for guests using wheelchairs, walkers, canes, or crutches.

Arriving by Public Transportation

The LYNX Blue Line offers convenient light-rail services between uptown Charlotte and I-485 at South Boulevard. These stop within a short walk of the stadium at the Carson, Brooklyn Village, and Convention Center stations, and there are seven park-and-ride lots along the route.

Ridesharing arrangements

The recommended location for rideshare pick-ups and drop-offs is next to Romare Bearden Park at the corner of Third Street and Church Street. 

When To Arrive For A Carolina Panthers or Charlotte FC Game

Bank of America Stadium has three main entry gates. Each gate is fully ADA accessible and can easily be identified by its illuminated glass domes.

Bank of America Stadium is a cashless venue. All purchases may be made using debit or credit cards and mobile apps, including Google Wallet and Apple Pay. 

Bag Policy

Bank of America Stadium has a clear bag policy in support of the NFL-wide bag policy. All visitors to the stadium should expect to be searched and have their bags checked upon entry.

You can take the following into the stadium with you:

• 1 x clear PVC, vinyl, or plastic bag measuring no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches
• Purses, clutches, and bags measuring no more than 4.5 x 6.5 inches
• 2 x sealed bottles of water per person, no larger than 16.9 oz

Tailgating

Bank of America Stadium is an excellent venue for tailgating, and you can fire up your grill in most parking lots. 

You can’t tailgate in parking garages, and open fires are prohibited in all locations. You’ll also need to follow basic safety guidelines, such as not using charcoal grills in stadium-operated parking lots.
